Saturn February 2005

Scope: C8 f/32 (approx)  Location: Del Mar, CA;  8 Feb. 2005;   Camera: Vesta 690 Non-RAW mod

Exposure: Approx 154 x .2 sec, Color CCD Exposure with IR Block. Used best 65 frames

Processing: Image was captured in K3CCDTools 2. Aligned/stacked in Registax 3 using best 65 (approx) frames and saved as TIFF. The image was re-sampled at 1.5x and some wavelet processing was applied. Color seemed to have been biased to the red on the left edges so this was corrected in Photoshop. At the time, Saturn was relatively high in the sky, so atmospheric refraction would have been expected to be small - I cannot explain the red bias. Histogram levels were adjusted to full range and color saturation adjustment was done in Photoshop. SGBNR (PixInsight LE) was lightly applied to the final image.

The image above and the images below were taken under conditions of relatively good seeing. At first I imaged at a lower magnification. When I saw the results, I decided to push the magnification a little further from f/24 to approx f/32. The image above was taken at f/32 (focal length approx 6400mm).

Images below are processed the same as the larger image (except for the 1.5 re-sampling)
