Description:

North is left in this image.  The supernova remnant, SNR G206.9+02.3, is in the lower part of the image - identified by its blue highlights. The supernova event took place sometime 15,000 to 60,000 years ago. Its distance is estimated at 3,000 to 7,000 light years.

Also in this image is the emission nebula LBN 947 and dark nebula LDN 1631 - both in the upper part of the image.  There is an open cluster, Berkeley 26 (distance 14,000 light years) in the lower right corner. A background galaxy LEDA 19485 (distance - 320 million light years by redshift estimate) is in the upper left corner.

UGC 3543 is along the right edge. This UGC identification implies it is a galaxy. But a 1995 study to clarify galaxy characteristics close to the Milky Way deemed this one to be misclassified as a galaxy and reclassified it as a reflection nebula.

These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image Vertical FOV is approximately 2.19 degrees. Full size image scale is about 1.47 arcsec/pix.

Image center is approximately -

Equatorial 2000: RA: 06h 46m 52s Dec: +06°24'47"
