January 2015 Camera: ST8300M Exposure:
Exposure: 16 x 10 min (1x1 bin) exposure with UV/IR block, 8 x 10 min (2x2
bin) exposure with H-Alpha filter, 8 x 4.5 min (2x2 bin) RGB exposures. Processing: Data
Collection - Sequence Generator Pro (as FITs). Calibrated, stacked
(Sigma Kappa Combine) in Deep Sky Stacker, L - RGB channel registration,
equalization, central gradient removal - Astroart. Curves, Levels, and
Luminance development, RGB combine - Images Plus. Finishing - Photoshop.
Color calibration with eXcalibrator. This image is UV/IR Block blended with
H-Alpha for the Luminance channel. Red and H-Alpha are blended for the red
channel and then a LRGB combine with Luminance layering. Saturation in LAB
color. Final Image size is approximately 3352x2532 resized to
2600x1950. North is to the
left in this image. This field is dominated by the large LDN 1622
Dark Nebula. This is a shapely structure that has evoked two common
names - sometimes known as the "Boogeyman" and sometimes known
as the "Dancing Dolphin". Less dominant is dark nebula LDN 1621 on the
left. There are two van den Bergh reflection nebulae in this field, vdB 62 and
vdB 63. The bright star between LDN 1622 and 1621 is HD 39715 that is a high
proper motion star of about 650 mas/yr. Finally there are other dark nebula
structures. These objects are highlighted in the annotated
image. The star HD 39715 is approximately 86 light years distant from
Earth; vdB 63 is approximately 145 light years distant. This image replaces and
earlier image that can be found in the archives
here. The star Horizontal FOV is 88' Image
center is approximately - Equatorial 2000: RA: 05h 55m
