Processing: Data
Collection - N.I.N.A. Sequencer (as FITs). Sub-frame calibration -
Pixinsight (WBPP). Sub-frame registration and integration (Average combine
- Linear clipping) - PixInsight (WBPP). 2x Drizzle of Lum stack - PixInsight
(WBPP). Noise reduction - NoiseXTerminator - PixInsight.
Non-linear stretching, normalization and gradient removal - PixInsight.
Photometric RGB calibration (SPCC) - PixInsight. Deconvolution of Lum and
RGB combine -
BlurXTerminator. Generation of starless nebulosity for Lum and combined RGB images for later processing - Star
XTerminator. Curves, Levels, RGB
combine - PixInsight. RGB starless and Lum starless combine (for
LRGB starless) - PixInsight. LRGB
stars screened to LRGB starless - Pixinsight. Final finishing, crop,
and resample -
Affinity Photo. Annotation - PixInsight, Aladin (Simbad),
and Affinity Photo. This image is an LRGB starless composition -
with LRGB stars added. Image processed at 12496x8352 resolution. Final Image size is approximately
7100x4647.
North is
to the lower right. This image shows
the so called "Monsters of Cepheus" or sometimes called the "Fighting
Dragons". My opinion is that that the monsters are like a wolf
(upper left) and a Sculpin (lower right). The Sculpin is a fish also
known as the San Diego Scorpionfish - with big mouth and spines along
the back. Its range is only along the North American west coast and
extending past the Mexican west coast waters. I mention it because I
live in the region and I am very familiar with the sculpin. But it's
likely astro imagers worldwide may not be familiar it.
The image
has LBN 545, 550, 552, 555. These LBN structures are all at about 20
degrees of galactic latitude - Other items
in this image include LDN 1228 which is also at about 20 degrees of galactic
latitude and are likely related to the LBN IFN structures.. The field
also reveals several Background galaxies. PGC 65255 is a distant spiral
(Sbc), but it shows up well in this wide field image. Its distance is about
226 million light years. LEDA 2774926 is more distant - at about 804
million light years These objects and
some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated
image. Horizontal Full FOV is approximately
4.42 degrees. Full size image scale is about 2.24 arcsec/pix.
