Helix Nebula in Aquarius

Scope: C8 at  f/3 Location: Laguna Mtns. 8/23/03 and Ramona CA  8/29/2003 Camera: ToUcam SC3

Exposure: 8 x 60 sec with IR filter in the Lagunas on 8/23 and 6 x 60 sec each RGB exposures in Ramona 6 days later.

Processing: Captured aligned and stacked in K3CCDTools  with L,R,G,B saved as FITs. LRGB masters were registered  in Astroart. Some Lowpass filtering was applied followed by un-sharp mask on the Luminance frame. LRGB combine was done in Photoshop. Because the RGB exposures were so long to capture the nebula colors, you can see the stars are all saturated white. In hindsight several color exposures at different times would improve this image by getting better star color. The result had minor touch up in Photoshop.

This image was one of the first taken with the new C8 scope on the AS mount. These images were manually guided.. Horizontal FOV is 22'
