IC 417 in Auriga
Archives

Scope: ST80 f/5; Location: Del Mar CA; 9 Mar. 2004; Camera: ToUcam SC3

Exposure: 15 x 20 sec Luminance exposures with Baader IR Block and Orion Skyglo Filters; 4 x 360 sec H-Alpha exposure, 6 x 120 sec Red Exposure for Luminance enhancement; 12 x 20 sec RGB

Processing: Captured in K3CCDTools. Frames were aligned and stacked in Registax with HA, IR,R,G,B saved as FITs. HA, IR,RGB masters were scaled and rough color balanced in Astroart. Channels were co-registered in Astroart. Some Lowpass filtering was applied on the HA and IR channels. HA and IR were combined for Luminance. HA and Red combined for red. These combinations and LRGB combine were done in Photoshop. Luminance Layering was used. Color balancing and final touches in Photoshop. SGBNR was used to smooth background noise.

This was a guided exposure. Normally I try to use f/2.5 to f/3.3 for a narrow band filter such as the H-Alpha. This image was made with f/5 and the exposure times for the H-Alpha exposure were longer than I usually do with this set up - the results are OK if not a bit under exposed on H-Alpha. Horizontal FOV is 84'.
